Is your floor ready?
Sand & Finishing is a service offered to any floor that has a thick enough wear-layer to be sanded down. Factory Flooring Liquidators recommends floors over 3 mm engineered floor for sanding. Any floors under this recommended wear-layer would not be a good candidate for this process.
If your existing floors are lacking their shine, look scratched or scuffed, or have raw wood peeking through, it may be time to sand & finish your floors. The approximate timeframe for this service could be anywhere from five to 10+ years after your floors were installed. Of course, this is on a case-by-case basis depending on a few important factors: Dogs, kids, and an active home can all lead to needing sand & finish sooner than you may think. That said, a great resource for determining when to sand &the finish is the National Wood Floors Association (NWFA). It provides guidance to help understand when it’s time for an overhaul. In addition, your hardwood floor company should be able to help you make the decision.
Maintenance to last
Maintenance services such as a deep clean often called a “screen & coat”, can aid in the floor’s overall lifetime. If routine maintenance is adhered to closely, you may never have to refinish your hardwood floors. After a refinish, follow the recommended guidelines for cleaning according to your floor’s new finish type. Cleaning with non-acidic PH balanced wood floor cleaner will help prolong the life of your refinished floors.
